Years ago, I was in Las Vegas for New Year’s. You can imagine the scene: the bright signs, the noise, the drunk patrons, the “chi-ching” sounds of all the slot machines, the feeling that it was 8 pm when really it was 2 am, the bright colors, and the sensations that manipulate your brain.
I was a solopreneur on the eve of my company's profitability and I knew in my heart it was going to take off. But at the moment, the bank account was looking a little empty and after some unforeseen expenses, I only had $500 left to last the rest of my vacation.
As I sat there, considering to cut my losses and forgo on a pre-bought ticket on an oversold redeye flight. My mind started working on the biggest problem in front of me, how can I overcome the impossible? How can I get the casino to be happy to pay me?

Most people are like gamblers, losing their life savings in the slots lining the walls and aisles of every casino. They accept that losing is just part of the game. Just another cost of doing business. The best they can hope for is that eventually, with enough spins of the wheel, they’ll win enough to cut some of the losses to try to make all the pain worthwhile. Most people are wrong.
I identified the reality of my situation - my lack of time, money, and typical pathway to success.
I identified my prospect's (the dealer) reality - what they actually wanted and how it could be provided in a meaningful way.
I genuinely connected with the dealer – instantly.
I tested the dealer to see if they were a prospect that I wanted - without taking any risk.

I created relationships that overcame the blackhole of momentum against my success.
Within half an hour, my bankroll was as fat as a buffet patron, and the pain of my previous situation was all but a distant memory.

All of us knew how to communicate, receive help, receive attention, and react to our surroundings before we could walk. The used car dealer, the bane of every salesperson's existence for the past sixty-plus years, is the posterboy who has been giving all salespeople a bad name. They’re pushy, conniving, and will do or say anything to get the sale.
